If you have never cruised before, then you have missed out on a way of travelling that will truly change how you view moving from one place to another. Not only is cruising fun but its convenient and cost effective. You get all the wonderful amenities of being at a 5 star resort with the added bonus that you wake up each morning with the possibility of embarking on a brand new adventure in different countries and ports of call. Cruising is flexibility at its finest.
If you want to explore Europe, there are so many choices and experiences to decide on. It can be overwhelming trying to make a decision. Most people make their first trip of two, doing the “classic” trips’ going to the big ports and cities onboard larger ships. You can embark in Venice after spending 2-3 days before the trip, exploring the city. Then you would visit places like Sicily, Malta, Tunisia, Florence, Genoa and Pisa. Or you might start in Rome so you could explore the Coliseum, the Vatican and Sistine Chapel. Taking a Greek Island cruise for 11 days left me feeling emotionally overwhelmed at the sheer beauty and history that I was graced with seeing and experiencing each day.
The absolute joy with cruising is that you make your selection on cruise line and ship, based on the places YOU want to visit. You can customize your own adventure based on the availability of ports different ships call upon. There are hundreds of ships and thousands of ports so the combination and possibilities are there, just waiting for you to discover them.
And remember, cruising does not just encompass sea and ocean voyages. There are also RIVER cruises, where you can explore countries in depth. Sailing on amazing ships that cruise right through the center of historic cities, dock there, so you can get out and explore a new city or even country, every day. Your ship becomes a floating resort right in the center of a city where to stay at a hotel would be an exorbitant price. So you have complete convenience, accessibility and the ability to experience the best of both worlds: cruising and resort life.
If you choose to sail on an ocean voyage, please remember that choosing a room that is located mid ship and on lower deck is the wisest choice, as it mitigates the feel of any movement from the waves, especially if you do not know if the motion will bother you. You do see people wear a motion sickness patch and when I have asked them about it, they say it works wonderfully and allows them to travel on a ship, even though they normally might suffer from motion sickness. If you do have concerns, then you can always start with a 3-4 day voyage in the Caribbean before you invest in a longer 10-14 day voyage of the Mediterranean.
I am excited for you to start this new adventure of discovery! Cruising to different locations allows you to explore the world in a relaxing, cost effective manner that brings you into close contact with history, with beauty and with the amazing world we share with so many others. You get to wake up and watch the sun rise over the water as you pull into port. You get to sail off into the sun set, watching the sun disappear in the glory of a sunset that brings peace to your soul. You get to experience fine dining and evening cocktails while enjoying world class entertainment and talking to new friends from all over the world.
Cruising brings value to your life you didn’t even know you were missing. It is the Golden Age of travel meeting the Modern comforts and luxury we have become used to. It is comfort and relaxation combined with excitement and adventure. It is as active or as slow as you need it to be. It will bring you the most flexibility while opening up the most options, you may ever think of needing. It is more than I could have imagined it would be. Cruising allows you to be inspired every day and gives you the time to reflect on it, as you listen to the waves against the hull of the ship, smell the salt air and feel your skin caressed with gentle breezes as you watch the coast line disappear as you sail into the sunset, after another day filled with beauty.
